About Second Seam
Second Seam is an independent English-language magazine about sustainable fashion: buying less and better, second-hand and vintage, caring for and repairing clothes, responsible materials and jewelry, the industry's environmental footprint, and the rights of the people who make and model clothes.
What you will find here
- Practical guides you can use straight away: how to shop less, remove stains, wash "dry clean only" garments, choose a swimsuit that lasts, organise a wardrobe.
- Explainers on materials, water, waste and regulation, with the figures and the dates that matter.
- Essays on power, labour and representation in fashion, and The Women Series, which profiles the kinds of work that keep clothes in use.
How the guides are checked
- Figures, laws and dates are checked against primary or authoritative sources: reports by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, UN agencies (UNEP, UNCTAD, FAO, ILO), the European Commission and EU legislation, the US Environmental Protection Agency, WRAP, regulators such as state labour departments, university extension services and peer-reviewed papers. They are linked at the end of each guide.
- Where estimates disagree, as they often do for the industry's emissions or water use, the guides say so and name the source of each figure rather than picking the most dramatic one.
- Figures that could not be verified are left out.
- Guides are signed with the magazine's name. There are no invented authors, testimonials or reviews.
What Second Seam does not do
Second Seam has nothing to sell. No brand pays to be recommended, there are no ads and no affiliate links. You will not read interviews here, nor quotes or statements put in the mouths of celebrities, models, activists or any other real person. A label is named only when a guide cannot make its point without it, and every trademark stays with its owner. Treat the guides as general information: your garment's care label, a specialist for anything valuable and a lawyer for legal questions all come first.

About this domain
From around 2018 into the 2020s, the domain thefrontlash.com hosted an online magazine on sustainable fashion and activism, called The Frontlash. That magazine is no longer published. Second Seam is a new and independent publication: it is not affiliated with Laura Jones or with the former The Frontlash magazine, and none of that magazine's content is reused here, whether texts, interviews, images or logo. Some old addresses on this domain now lead to new, original guides on related subjects; addresses of former interviews and personal columns redirect to the closest guide.
